Housing Trust officially opened nine brand-new homes at The Bower, Dapto on Friday 31st January.
These beautifully designed homes will provide a safe and supportive environment especially for women and children.
The project was supported in part by funding that was received through a Wollongong City Council Grant from the Commonwealth Government’s Building Better Regional Cities program. Housing Trust was successful in securing $4.3M in funding to provide 17 Affordable rental homes in the Wollongong LGA. Nine of the homes are at The Bower with the remainder included in another Housing Trust development currently under construction in central Wollongong.
“We have great support at the Local, State and Federal Government levels for our work here in the region. The need is well understood by our local representatives, and we are grateful for the advocacy and support for this project, particularly Lord Mayor Tania Brown and Federal MP Stephen Jones.”
Amanda Winks, CEO of Housing Trust, said, “We are delighted to see the completion of The Bower, which is providing much-needed affordable housing for women-led households in our community. This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and the positive impact it can have.
“We were so pleased to see residents moving in and making The Bower home in time for Christmas”.
Housing Trust partnered with local project managers Bellcorp and builders Insight Development Group to deliver the project. The project has also featured local architects and suppliers and meets Silver level Liveable Housing Australia Design Certification.
The Bower features a mix of 1 bedroom villa and 2-bedroom townhouses, each thoughtfully designed with modern appliances and enclosed alfresco areas. Residents can enjoy the beautiful local scenery in the privacy of their own homes. Additionally, each home is equipped with low-maintenance gardens, rainwater tanks, and solar panels to help reduce electricity bills and promote a sustainable lifestyle.
