Across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, the housing crisis is hitting home.
The workers hailed as heroes for keeping our communities afloat through bushfires and pandemics – our nurses, teachers, small business owners and aged care workers – can no longer afford to live here.
Our Homes 4 Local Heroes campaign is fighting to change this. One solution is affordable rental housing: provided by not-for-profit community organisations and rented below the market price to people on moderate incomes who can’t afford to rent, let alone buy a home.
You’re invited to join us on Wednesday 24 November for the Homes 4 Local Heroes: Affordable Rental Forum.
This free online event will explore how local councils can work with community housing providers and other levels of government to provide homes that our local heroes can afford.

Local Government is essential to build and support affordable rental housing in our region. Local housing strategies, planning approvals and financial incentives are essential to boosting supply and ensuring the workers keeping their community afloat have a place to live.
At the Forum you’ll hear from leaders in business, housing, the community and tenants in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven region about how our local councils can use their power and work with other levels of government to tackle the housing crisis.
Speakers include:
· Michael Carnuccio, Senior Policy Officer, Community Housing Industry Association NSW
· Michelle Adair, CEO of Housing Trust and Chair CHIA NSW
· Adam Zarth, CEO of Illawarra Business Chamber
The forum will also include a panel discussion with opportunities for audience questions.
We’d love you to join this important discussion and map a sustainable way forward for our region to provide the homes our communities need.
