What happens when I am offered a social housing property?
If you are eligible for Social Housing the wait times vary depending on availability, location, size of housing required, your needs and the comparable needs of others on the wait list.
- We will contact you by telephone and let you know that a property is available that we think matches your housing needs.
- We will give you a formal offer of housing by giving you the address of the property.
- You will have 48 hours to view the property, which includes the opportunity to view inside the property.
- After you have viewed the property, you will have 24 hours to decide whether you want to accept the offer of housing.
What happens if the property does not match my needs and I decide to decline the offer?
- An offer of housing is made based on your needs and the information available to us.
- If you do not wish to accept the offer we will ask you to complete an Offer Response form telling us why you think the offer was not reasonable for your situation. Your application will be suspended pending a review.
- We will write to you to inform you of the outcome of your Offer Response form.
- If your offer is deemed reasonable this will be noted in the NSW Housing Register as a ‘refused offer’. After your second ‘refused offer’ your application will be removed from the NSW Housing Register and you will need to reapply.
