Ready to build a robot?
Project Bucephalus and Housing Trust are teaming up with the University of Wollongong to offer 6 high school students the opportunity to be part of an Illawarra team that builds a 55kg industrial sized robot to compete on the international stage!
You will learn technical design, programming, mechanical and electrical engineering and have loads fun along the way!
No experience necessary. Please fill out an expression of interest form below.

Please note:
- You will be required to attend at least one information session in November/December 2024 with your parent or guardian.
- The season starts on January 5th 2025 with teams working on their robots through January and February.
- Australian teams will then compete at the Southern Cross Regionals in Penrith from March 6th – 9th 2025.
Please review the terms and conditions and key dates below prior to submitting the form. The program is completely FREE, successful applicants will be responsible for their own transport costs.
- People with all levels of ability are encouraged to apply
- Project Bucephalus operates under strict supervision and age restrictions.This means that places in the team are severely limited, and we can’t guarantee there will be a place for everyone that expresses interest.
- Places will be awarded to participants by the Housing Trust Community Engagement Officer and Project Bucephalus Lead Mentor based on interest, enthusiasm and commitment
- This Project Bucephalus project is sponsored by UOW and there is no charge to participants
- Participants must be in high school in 2025
- Multiple family members may apply provided they are of high school age
- Participants are required to commit to attending a minimum of one information session in late 2024, two months of building in January and February 2025, and attending the competition in Penrith in March 2025
- Parents and carers are responsible for getting their children to the required venues to participate
- Participants will be informed of their inclusion in the program by November 2024
- Participants will be requested to participate in photography. Please speak to the Housing Trust Community Engagement Officer on 4254 1166 if this may not be suitable
- Your data will be kept in accordance with Housing Trust Privacy Policy and only details required for registration will be shared with Project Bucephalus
