Today we received the news of the sudden passing of long-term former Housing Trust Board Member and former Chair, Vicky King.
Vicky spent much of her working life and spare time serving the community through various Boards and on Wollongong City Council. Always advocating for vulnerable members of our community. Vicky was especially passionate about the provision of more affordable housing. Her legacy to the community will continue to be realised well into the future.
In the 20 years Vicky served on the board here at Housing Trust she stewarded many changes and periods of great growth steadfast with the vision to increase the supply of housing. The Board under Vicky’s Chair saw the first large transfers of housing stock from the Land and Housing Corporation and made significant land purchases. During the Housing Trust’s 25th Anniversary in 2009 Vicky and the Board were congratulated by then Minister for Housing Tanya Plibersek for their leadership.
Although having retired from the Board in 2011, Vicky remained a tenacious advocate for housing signing a commitment to “support leadership to the urgent implementation of an Affordable Housing Policy and prioritising initiatives to reduce the waiting list” in her successful 2017 Wollongong City Council election campaign.
Housing Trust extends our deepest sympathies to Vicky’s family and friends during this sad time.
